The faithful

Joshua 5: 14 ' Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence...'
Joshua 6 : 3 'March around the city (of Jericho) once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. On the seventh day march around the city seven times.....then the city walls will collapse...'
What the faithful Buddhist pilgrims are doing has been demonstrated in the Bible a few thousand years ago. The kora and the prostrations are nothing new, the Israelites performed them in the early days of following Yahweh.

A hundred butter lamps

A hundred butter lamps and a thousand (or more) prayer flags at Bouda stupa. Here the faithful perform their kora and prostrations every day. It's not just the Buddhists but Hindus are among them. Heck, what's wrong with worshipping a few more spirits. One can't go wrong there.

The kora

The first time I saw people circumambulating was in Xiahe, China. I saw pilgrims walking around a chorten up in the hills. It was an exciting sight, I've read so much about it and then right in front of my eyes, pilgrims were doing it. Wow, I thought, I've arrived. Here at Bouda stupa, pilgrims were doing their kora. It had a festive aura about it. I was thrilled to be there.

Tibetan refugees

I was asked how can I tell whether they are Tibetans? By their striped aprons. Here in Nepal they wear a striped apron. While they do wear a striped apron in China, they also wear a chuba or a cloak. I haven't seen any chubas in Nepal.

Boudanath

This is a very iconic monument though there is a similar one in another temple complex. The all seeing eye and the question mark for the nose. This has been around for eons and today Buddhists come to circumambulate around it. Finally I'm here too in its midst after seeing so many of its pictures. It was quite an awesome feeling.

Bouda stupa

It was a very busy place with pilgrims, both Tibetan Buddhists and Hindus, walking the 'kora'. The 'kora' is just a pilgrim circumambulating a religious object in a clock wise direction. There were minks doing the kora and burning incense at the same time. There was low hum of Tibetan prayers being played. It took on a very spiritual atmosphere.

Boudanath

Most people would have seen this picture in any story about Nepal and Kathmandu. The huge stupa belonging to the Tibetan Buddhists in Kathmandu. Finally I reached it.
