Sparta and the Taygetus

You can see the snow capped peaks of the Taygetus mountain range from downtown Sparta. Downtown Sparta has 2 main roads that cross each other. It is a transportation hub to the Southern part of the Peloponnese. We arrived at the bus station at the bottom of the hill, we took the bus from near Loutraki, the place of the Corinth canal. It took 2 hours, from Loutraki, its another hour to Athens. So to get to the center of town, just walk up the hill. The bus station would be our best friend for the next few days, there's nothing in modern Sparta. Ancient Sparta lies to the northern corner of the town and there's nothing left except the stones of the ancient arena. Even then it is overgrown and really unimpressive but if you're already in Sparta, just take a detour over to see it. Mystra is 3 miles from Sparta and that was one of the reasons to be in Sparta.
