Two days prior to this visit, we were on a Trenitalia train going between Ventimiglia and Saorge. All along the tracks we saw some of the sweetest looking villages. One of them was Breil sur Roya which we didn't think we'll see this trip. It looked so beautiful from the train and as the train passed, I tried to take a few pictures. To our surprise we would get to visit Breil sur Roya, the name just means Breil by the river Roya. It was a sunday and we took SNCF to Sospel and realised that we still have time in the day for another darling of a village. So from Sospel, we took another train up to Breil. It was sunday and I'm surprised there are so many trains running, usually the schedule is sparse. We walked around Breil, it was pretty empty, every one's at home and none of the shops were opened but it was so quiet and sweet, we had a great time, just wandering around and taking pictures.
Breil, from the train. It had a really pretty church with gorgeous frescoes inside. They call it the Sistine chapel of the alps.
The river, Roya, nice and slow and meandering.
Empty streets in a sleepy town.
Bridge over the river, Roya.
The church
