Marrakech, the cinnamon city

You'll know you're in for a treat the minute you arrive in Marrakech. This is the color of the city. The old part is the medina with it thick remparts and many gates that lead into the medina. This is where most tourists end up in Morroco. It is a spectacular place, pretty and atmospheric and crowded. One can spend a lot of time in Marrakech and never feel bored. There's lots to do and lots to see. A lot of attractions are within a few hours from Marrakech. We took a few day trips from Marrakech. Even within the city there is a lot going on. A lot of expatriate French people have purchased some of the houses and turned them into fancy riads. A huge new city has sprung up around the medina and Marrakech is sprawling.

The majority of Marrakech’s attractions lie within its ancient city walls and are best located from the focal point of Jemaa el Fna.The minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque and the Jemaa el Fna are the dominant images of the medina of Marrakech.
