St Stephen Cathedral, Vienna

This is the main attraction in the main square in downtown Vienna. A cathedral dedicated to St Stephen, the first Christian martyr. I had to consult my bible to make sure, was he (St Stephen) or was St James that was the first Christian martyr. It was St Stephen. After the resurrection of Jesus, the church grew and the Apostles had to appoint more people into the ministry. Stephen was one of the new guys and his preaching was so powerful that he incited the hatred of the Jews who stoned him to death. St James was beheaded a few years later by King Herod in 44Ad and a magnificent cathedral is in place in his honor in Santiago de Compostela which is supposedly the place where his body is laid. The baroque cathedral at Santiago de Compostela is also incredible. All the activities of tourism revolves round this cathedral and there are always huge crowds at all times of the day and night. The fancy shops and restaurants are also here. So one doesn't really have to venture far outside this area. The Hofburg palace is just steps away.
