Forty martyrs church

Here the steeple of the Syriac Orthodox church, Forty martyrs church is visible above the roofs of its surrounding buildings. We didn't have time so we didn't get to see the interior. But one can check out the site for more details (http://www.hmml.org/preservation10/CFMM.htm). Forty martyrs is a Christian legend about forty Roman soldiers who had converted to Christianity and wouldn't renounce it. They were punished by having them spend the night on a frozen lake. In the morning they discovered their stiffened bodies and some were still alive but were later burnt and their ashes thrown into the river. Today they are still venerated. this happened in Sebaste, todays' Sivas in Turkey.
