A grocery store in Burgos

 Jars and jars of pickles.

And of course, sardines.

 Cheeses

 Wine and other spirits.

 Beans and rice.

And what Burgos is famous for, their Morcillas sausage, a blood sausage which is really. I didn't eat it in Burgos but ate them in San Sebastian. I like it. It's always fun to peek into grocery stores in other countries to see the type of food they eat. It wasn't any different when we were in Burgos. This was a very interesting grocery store that sold food that was typical for the area.

Lately I've tried to insert more and more of myself into my pictures. It wasn't always like this. I remember our driver in Cairo remarking that he's not seen people who took so many pictures without themselves being in any of them. Here, I am outside Burgos cathedral with a bronze pilgrim.

Illustrated Bibles

To one side of the cloisters is a little museum which held a bunch of illustrated Bibles in glass cases. It's wonderful to see the writings before the invention of the printing press. As in the Bible where sages had to copy the Bible by hand, they counted the number of letters on each line and copied exactly. If it has the same number on each line, they were assured they left nothing out. How did we manage in the days before the printing press and more recently in the days before the computer. Today in the Pharmacy all claims are electronically transmitted and we work so much with technology that I cannot even fathom how to do without technology. It's not just using the key board, most of our equipment has touch screen capability. But it is still refreshing to see these illustrated books in its glory.

Usually cloisters are quite empty spaces but quiet where people can visit, pray and be alone with God. Burgos cathedral cloisters are among the busiest I've seen, full of Gothic architectural features and tombs for past cardinals. However it was still beautiful and quite inducing to meditation.

This is a Gothic cathedral and has many spires. Unlike renaissance cathedral which has domes that are heavily frescoed, Gothic spires has more of a patterned dome. The eyes are led heavenward which reminds of scriptures, in Psalms, where it said, 'I look to the hills from where my help comes, my help comes from the Lord who made the heavens and the earth...' It also reminds us of Noah's ark where there was only one window and it was high in the structure and Noah and his family has to look upwards.

 I am always amazed at what craftsmen can do with marble, how they can carve it to such perfection.

 There are gold gilded altar pieces at every chapel.

 The ceilings are masterpieces.

It reminded me of a passage in Exodus which says, 'and He has filled him with the spirit of God..... and all manner of workmanship to design artistic works, to work in gold and silver and bronze, in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood and to work in all manner of artistic workmanship.' Surely one need to be blessed by God in order to be able to do such works of art, with stone, marble, jewels or precious metals.

Burgos cathedral

The very immense and magnificent Burgos cathedral. It is well known among Christian circles and those who walk the Camino Santiago de Compostela. A lot of religious tours takes pilgrims to Burgos cathedral. Maybe for some reason there is power in prayers in special churches. I make it a point to pray in every church I visit. I pray that I will see more and more churches and my prayers are answered because I am seeing more and more churches in every corner of the world wherever old churches are found, I'm there.
