Taormina

This is a scanned picture of our visit to Taormina. We'd just arrived the night before and sleepy as we were, we weren't going to slow down. The next morning, after breakfast, we took the train from Catania and headed up the coast for Taormina. This is the Roman ruins up on the hill. This was our first experience of Sicily. It took 3 flights to get to Catania from Los Angeles. It was a long way away but so worth the effort. Maybe other visitors from the West coast of the USA is put off by the distance but one shouldn't be deterred. Sicily is so well worth the effort of getting there. It's like another world. Taormina is a very pretty resort town, perched high on a hill. The train station is down below and a regular bus service takes you up to the city. It was raining. It rained the whole time we were in Sicily but it didn't stop us from exploring. We passed some of the most beautiful countryside on the way and saw Mt Etna.
