St Catherine monastery

The monastery is a 15 minute hike up the hill but there are taxis to take you up for a fee. My driver just ordered one of the drivers to take me up.
At the base there are souvenir shops and stalls selling snacks and drinks.
There are a huge crowd already inside the monastery.

This area was cordoned off, this is where the burning bush chapel is. This is supposed to be where the burning bush that Moses came upon years and years ago.
In the early days of the monastery, people had to be hoisted up with rope because  there were doors. This place is so secure, it has to be, to protect the occupants from marauders.
Later this door was made out of the thick walls.
An old picture of St Catherine monastery, dating back to the fourth century, ordered to be constructed by Emperor Justinian. Today it is included in most Holy Land tour.
