The bus system in Morroco

This is the Gare Routiere in Essaouira. There are lots of local buses operated by private companies that criss cross Morroco.
This was our CTM bus that took us back from Essaouira to Marrakech. It's supposed to be the deluxe bus company and it is. It costs more than the other local bus companies. This was a direct bus with no stops unlike the local bus we took earlier. But the incredible part was we had a 10 minute bathroom break. This is important, I've often wondered how people hold it in on long bus trips. We were in a local bus for 4 hours without a bathroom break. For this reason we prefer to take trains even though it costs more but there are certain areas not covered by the trains and buses are the only alternative. I always make sure I don't drink too much fluids on such long bus trips. The official train company in Morroco has their own buses called Supratours. Where the trains don't run, the buses will take you. For this reason, Supratour buses are found outside train stations. It is like the French system where SNCF have their own buses and sometimes depending on where you are going you will take the train to connect with the bus or vice versa. Remember Morroco was under French rule for a while and French is used in everyday's business. Kids in school learn both Arabic and French.
