The Al-Azhar Mosque

It is just across the road from one of the entrances to Khan Al-Khalili. In fact there is an underground passage linking them because the traffic could be horrendous here and there are so many people, tourists and locals alike, visiting this area. This mosque links up with Bab Zuwayla passing through some really interesting local neighborhoods. There were shops selling all kinds of things, from rabbits to coffee. We had to take our shoes off and they charged us 2le for keeping our shoes. We were told to cover our heads also, the first mosque that required us to do it. There was an area just for the men and we looked in from the outside.
Barricades outside protecting the mosque and a police car was parked outside, reminding us of danger everywhere in Cairo. The Khan Al-Khalili was bombed a few days before.

Those windows again.

There is bustling trade outside, here is a woman selling magazines.

The place only the men folk can go to.

Some one left their pipe, maybe it doesn't work anymore. This mosque had some pretty architectural details. We hung out in the courtyard and took some pictures and left to go to the alleys looking for something to buy to bring home.
