Time stands still in Bhaktapur, this mill has been in operation for hundreds of years and is still serving the community.
They have made pottery like this for years and years and years. The clay is from a nearby river. These are mostly jugs for holding holy water. Every morning they go to the temple for 'puja', the priests would give them a jug of holy water. The water is brought home and some drops is given to family members who couldn't go for puja, it stays in the house for a time and could be given to a sick member of the family.
It's all pedal power, he works the wheel with his foot turning it.
This is the kiln, consisting mostly of straw and covered with sand and it smolders for days firing the pottery. This method of doing things have not changed in eons.
Nearby there are huge stacks of straw ready for the kilns. It's so amazing to watch. I don't know if we are more fortunately or they are.... time just stands still for them. In my world, I can't move fast enough, there isn't any time to wait in my work, its faster, faster and faster.....
