Mardin, Turkey

We arrived in town with no hotel reservations. Lonely Planet guidebook did mentioned this hotel. So when we arrived, we made a beeline for it but it was full. They were hosting a French group. Mardin is not a place much visited by foreigners unless one is a what Lonely Planet calls, 'a culture vulture'. I guess I am one of them. It was heartening to see small groups of French and small groups of Italian visitors. Other than that and the two of us, there were a sprinkling of Australians, all of us made up the visitors in town. This is what they call a boutique hotel, a converted old mansion and they are expensive. They referred us to another boutique hotel but it was a steep climb to the other hotel which we did stay in. I took a few pictures of the this first place and of the incredible view.
