The rites of Spring

As the weather warms up, there appears from the earth strange things, lovely wild flowers that had hibernated all winter, shoots like ramps show up in the woods, fern heads and even the white asparagus. I was surprised that the white asparagus was harvested and sent to market in their dirt so as not to expose them to sunlight where they'll turn green. They are so prized because of their lack of color. All in one morning at the Tokyo Tsukiji fish market.
