Colorful Istanbul

They've painted these Ottoman buildings with multi colored paint. Turkish people will be the first people to tell you that Istanbul is not Turkey. Indeed it does look or feel like Anatolia. It is thoroughly modern and westernised and more European. We stayed in the Sultanahmet district that is the area where the Haghia Sophia is, the streets are narrow and often choked with traffic. If you come, be prepared to walk, most taxis will drop you off before you come into the area or if he doesn't (he wants to keep the meter running), ask to be dropped off and walk the rest of the way or you can use the tram system. Pretty soon when we get out of Istanbul we'll see some Anatolian village life and what a contrast it is.
