Graben

This is the sandwich shop written about in Rick Steves' guidebook. In fact it's been featured in one of his videos that he show on public television. I've seen him eat the finger sandwiches at this place. We didn't have time to eat here.

This area was the moat in Roman times. It's hard to imagine, looking at Vienna today that the Romans were here, the Ottomans were too and so was Hitler. Today the identity and atmosphere is solely Viennese. The only evidence of the Ottoman's presence is melange. What is melange? It is coffee with cream. Coffee and coffee drinking was introduced by the Ottoman Empire. We had many melange during our short time in Vienna.
