The Cinque terre

That year, every travel show on TV had them going to the Cinque terre. Rick Steves went there, Rudy Maxa also. They replayed the shows so many times I lost count. What's a travel minded person to do but to follow suit and go to the Cinque terre. What's the Cinque terre, where's the Cinque terre? It's just 5 little fishing villages along the Ligurian coast of Italy, a very craggy coast line with every village perched precariously on the rocky cliffs. There is a trail that connects all 5 villages and it takes about 7 hours to walk the whole thing leisurely. Two of the trails are very difficult, 1 which is less difficult and the 4th is a cakewalk which they dubbed 'lovers' lane.' Vernazza, one of the prettier village is always crowded because this is Rick Steves favorite. We stayed in Manarola which happens to be the steepest, we didn't know it at the time but hauling our luggage up a steep hill was not fun. We rented some one's apartment, one that was recommended by Rick Steves. I emailed them, told them our train time, they met us at the apartment, handed over the keys and there we were. The views were incredible. In fact, these pictures were taken from the apartment.
This was a fun experience which I really recommend doing. The place is so pretty and the people are so friendly. The next year we were on the train, headed somewhere, we passed the Cinque terre, we saw some folks disembarking the train and heading for the Cinque terre, I felt the deepest envy in my heart.
Again the world is one gigantic amusement park. Are you having enough fun yet?
