The lowest airfares are usually not in summer when the weather is more predictable. I have to travel in Spring and Fall when the fares are lower though not that low. I remember traveling soon after 9-11, the fares were like giveaways. While I don't wish for another 9-11, I do wish for another time when, for some reason, airfares go way down. I think its wishful thinking. The two times we were in Sicily was in March and then in October, both times are when the rainy season hits Sicily. The only day it stopped raining were always our last days on the island. Nevertheless we trudged out and saw the sights, undeterred, armed with umbrellas. The wind was always so strong that we went through a few umbrellas. Here I was in Cefalu with the wind blowing this way and that. We still managed to have a great time.
