The area is so rugged, its mind boggling to think monks centuries ago picked this spot to put a monastery.
Bedouins live in this rugged area and helps take care of visitors.
I walked down the hill after my visit to look for my driver to take me back to Taba crossing, the border between Sinai and Israel. Its been a great 24 hours!
At the base are parked the numerous tour buses that bring the many pilgrims to this area. One of them on the 16th February would be blown up by a terrorist. I was there on the 12th, missed it by 4 days but I wasn't traveling with a group.
