The Irgun museum

After the Roman invasion of Palestine, the Romans expelled most of the Jews from Palestine. The 'diaspora' or scattering of Jews meant that they spread all round the world and prospered wherever they landed which later led to their demise in the holocaust. All this time they longed to return and the saying 'next year in Jerusalem' became a common greeting. Slowly they did return and especially around the time when they were no longer welcomed in their adopted countries. Boatloads of them were reaching the shores of Palestine. After the fall of the Ottoman empire, the levant was administered by the British. The 'Irgun' was a paramilitary group who fought the British mandate in Palestine after the first world war. They fought in a clandestine way. Finally the British just gave up, they had other problems in other areas of the empire. So in May 1948 the British gave Palestine back to the Jews and the state of Israel became a reality. The 'Irgun' were all absorbed in the IDF (Israeli defense forces). And that was a good thing, because the next day after the creation of the state of Israel, they were attacked by their neighbors........ read about it elsewhere. I have great admiration for the "Irgun' and I just had to visit the museum in Tel Aviv. I think my sister in law's father was a member of the Irgun. She, herself, served her draft in the Sinai desert.
