Drinking coffee in England

 Coffee, not tea.
 Not McDonald's either

 But coffee

Actually we came in for lunch. I'm into drinking coffee all day long, even before a meal. In Italy, they'll shoot me for ordering coffee before the meal. I have a low Thyroid problem but it's since been corrected. So I don't have to drink coffee all day long now. In Italy the waiter has refused to bring me the coffee before the meal, he was very insistent, 'after eating' he insisted.

Anne,
I had so much fun reading your latest posts, thank you!

Coffee before a meal, in a restaurant, yes, I feel empathy for the poor waiter, he must have truly suffered at the thought of serving coffee before a meal.
The secret is, in Italy, if you feel like having coffee, you'd first slip into one of the many coffee bars, have your coffee, and then move on to the restaurant. ;-)
There are so many coffee bars for a reason: to give you an opportunity to indulge in a cup of coffee anytime, anywhere. Italians, in restaurants, would have un caffee' only after a meal.

Cheers,
Merisi
