Route de vins, Alsace
Any Californian who has been to the wine country in Northern California can really indentify with this area. The weather was perfect, the grapes are ripening and are being harvested. There was a hive of activity, like time is of the essence, the weather is going to turn prety soon. All through the towns that dot the bus route there were dump trucks hauling the grape harvest to the wineries and empty trucks returning to the fields to be filled with more grapes. The tourists are invading the little towns, we see cars stopped all over the place as tourist stop to look at the grapes. Even as tourists dawdle, there's a sense of urgency in the air, 'gotta get these grapes into the fermentation vats soon'. We took the bus from the train station at Colmar to come on this wine route, it is just one of them, the villages are scattered all the place. We picked the most picturesque and prettiest ones to visit. The area is, as the English will say 'chocolate box' perfect.
