Szentendre, the back streets

Getting to Szentendre is a breeze, catch the train from Batthyany ter Metro station. Since we stayed at the Keleti train station, all we did was take the metro to Batthyany ter and from there catch the train that goes to Szentendre which was the most pleasant train ride. It was a Saturday and the locals were out in force. The day was sunny and bright, the train passed some of the cutest rural neighborhoods, small houses lined the tracks and the yards were filled with flowers and fruit treest laden with apples and pears. Wow, I can live here and be so happy.
When we arrived I was more interested in the back streets than the touristy main streets. So we wandered off the beaten path and started to explore the more run down places and found a plethora of interesting houses and yards.
Szentendre or St Andrew in English is an easy way to see rural Hungarian life without venturing too far from the city, from Budapest. A little distance from the main street, the Danube takes a little bend and lots of locals hang out here to spend their weekends. We tried to go further, to Esztergom but couldn't read the bus schedules or find someone who could speak English to instruct us. We went to the tourist office but it being a Saturday, the bus schedules were a little iffy. We did meet 3 bicyclists from Canada. They mentioned they didn't have any room reservation for when they get to Budapest. We told them about our hotel and they did end up staying there. We met up just before we left Budapest.
I call October the time of blackberries in Europe and it is one of the best time to visit.
