A village scene
Water is the stuff of life. Here in Spring, there is water in the little stream. I never found out what happens in Summer when the stream dries up. This is the village near the kasbah Ait Benhaddou. Looking out to the surrounding area from the top of the kasbah, it is such a buccolic scene. There is a vast area of bone dry desert just beyond. The villagers does a little farming and makes a little from the many tourists that visit. It reminded me of Egypt where most people live and huddle around the river Nile. The river Nile is so polluted from runoff, we saw people fishing in it. Beyond the river bank is bone dry desert. Water is big business and politics in Southern California where most of the people live and huddle together. We have aqueducts bringing water from the snow melts in Northern California and also the Colorado river in Arizona. The North is often threatening to choke off our water supply. Water is so expensive that we have been conserving, and so much that our water use is the same as in the 70's when there were so much less people living here. But we still our water bill go up to new levels.
