Wurzburg is very pretty but unfortunately we spent only a few hours here. We arrived at the train station and walked through the entire town through some pretty area. We were looking for the youth hostel. It was at the far corner, against a hill where sits a castle right on top. The hostel backs into the hill and one could hike up the hill to the castle. We had to pass a river before reaching the hostel. This was a huge, multi storied hostel, no lifts and we were on the top floor. It was pretty crowded and all 6 bunk beds in our room was occupied. I think there is a university in town and all the kids in the hostel were in town to apply for places at the university. There were families with children as well because the dinning room was always full at meal times. We ate breakfast and dinner here.
Hostel food, spaetzels, beef with gravy and salad. It was quite substantial.
We arrived in the late afternoon and left the next morning for Amsterdam. I chose Wurzburg because it was a train hub. We needed to be in Amsterdam to catch our flight for home. If you ever visit the Romantic Road, I hope you have more time than we did. There are a lot more little towns that we didn't get to see. I hope you don't have to stay in hostels as we did. There are beautiful hotels in all the sweet little towns.
