Last church

Bits of plaster and rock falling off from the frescoes.

What's this? Why it's just a shot gun shell casing. What's it doing here on the floor of a cave church? Someone has been hacking off pieces of the frescoes to destroy it. They used a shot gun to shoot at those they couldn't reach. Bernd said, it's ignorance. I don't think so, It's intolerance, of the highest order.

Someone tried to start a fire to burn these frescoes.
More shell casings....What an end to our trip and what an incredible trip, one that changed my life and set it off in a new direction. It opened up a whole new area of interest for me..... the Byzantine empire and the Balkans.
That same evening we were to take the shuttle at 4am and head for the airport at Kayseri for our early morning flight to Istanbul. From Istanbul we flew to Venice to begin our European part of the trip and then home from Amsterdam. That's what happens when you plan your own itinerary, it will be a mish mash of places and continents.
I'll see you in Venice.... next!
