Erzurum

A Seljuk tomb. This is a very conservative Islamic city. Most women wear scarves and the long raincoat type jacket. They are very beautiful, with their oval faces, tall noses and their gorgeous eyes and porcelainn skin. The people are very friendly, we felt really comfortable being in Erzurum.

This is the beautiful twin minaret medresse. It is absolutely beautiful inside. We are here to explore the beautiful Coruth valley where there are some old Georgian church ruins. When it was still the Byzantine empire, the last of the Imperial family, the Commenus, had help from the Georgian queen, Queen Tamar and that's why there are Georgian churches in the area.

The castle high above the town.
There is a mosque in the castle complex. The local Turks are quick to point out this old mosque but another visitor told me quietly, this was initially an Armenian church. She said she's Armenian visiting from Australia. I still see the age old enmity which time has not healed.
 Inside the medresse.
Everyone loves the eagle, whether it has one head or two heads, it seems to appear everywhere.
Two of the three Seljuk tombs.
The third tomb forming 'the three tombs.'
Another mosque. This city is prosperous and seem happy.
