Sumela 2

The chapel is built halfway into the rock and the rest of the complex just sits om top of this massive rock. The frescoes are more recent, hence they don't look like their counterparts in the Aya Sofya. They look more like something you or I could have drawn and painted, less sophisticated, more crude.

This was the biggest crowd I've seen visiting these parts. You won't see them in town, they are usually enscounced in their fancy hotel while we would be stomping around town, trying the delights and staying in cheapie motels, next to brothels stocked with 'natashas' as the Turkish calls the Ukrainians/Russians/Georgians whores.

It is an impressive site for a monastery and the trip was a great outing for 2 energetic boys.
