Mont St Michel, France

It felt like everyone has been to Mont St Michel except us. So this trip and since we had a few days in France before returning, I decided it's time we went to Mont St Michel. We arrived in Paris from Casablanca, took the TGV train to Rennes. We based ourselves in Rennes because the TGV went from Charles de Gaulle airport straight to Rennes. There is also a TGV that went from Rennes to Paris, so for ease of access, I chose Rennes. It was cold and rainy. There is a bus that went from the train station at Rennes to Mont St Michel and back, the journey took 1 and 1/2 hours. The bus stops at the entrance to Mont St Michel, we didn't even have to walk the causeway to get to the monastery. The huge abbey was built on this island just off the coast of Normandy. The thing is just humongous. At the base are all the restaurants, gift shops and snack places and it was crowded. This is a very popular destination for Japanese tourists. In fact Paris is very popular with the Japanese and a TGV train from Paris will land you in Rennes and again the bus will deposit you at the doorstep of the abbey or monastery. So it's an easy day trip from Paris, though I think all the tour groups have their own buses because there were a lot of buses at the entrance. The wind was blowing so hard and was whipping up the sand. I could feel sand in my mouth. Finally I have been to Mont St Michel.
