and of course, an old Byzantine church
And of course, right in the centre of market square is an old Byzantine church complete with frescoes, albeit badly damaged ones. I like it, in Greece, the new town gets built around the old churches. We would see this a lot in Athens, new high rises springing around old Byzantine churches. I like it that they are always opened and the locals can pop in anytime to say a prayer, light a candle and kiss an icon. I do go in, say a prayer and take some pictures. I'm tempted to light a candle and kiss some icons. It is not my tradition. This is the Eastern Orthodox tradition.
