Around the Acropolis

View of the Parthenon from below. It is a magnificent sight.

While most of the Acropolis area is from ancient Greek times, this arena is Roman. This is the Herod Atticus Theatre. Herod Atticus was a wealthy Greek who served in the Roman senate. It is still used for performances. Being as old as Athens is, it has many layers of history and each historical period has left their mark. You're never far from old ruins in Athens as the saying goes.

Dear Anna;

You have taken some wonderful pictures of a variety of ancient ruins. I am a biblical scholar and was wondering whether you would permit me to use your picture of the theatre at the bottom of your blog. I'm educating students on the Greco-Roman culture.
